Warts
A wart is a benign skin outgrowth of a viral origin. They are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). The infection is transmitted directly or indirectly: from person to person, from mother to a child,.through sexual intercourse, through household objects, etc. It can also spread through self-infection. Skin damage, excessive sweating, weak immune system, immunosuppressive treatment all these are factors contributing to higher probability of infection. The infection has no age limitations, so that wart appears at any age. The number and size of overgrowths vary from person to person. There are mainly 4 types of warts.
  • Ordinary or simple, round, uneven, covered a horny layer, they are nodules of yellowish colour. They are often numerous, located on the palmar surface of the hand,in the nasal area, rarely on the scalp, or mucous membrane of the mouth, red border of the lips, etc.
  • Flat (juvenile) warts are plain, skin-colored formations with smooth surfaces, usually located on the face, hands or calves. Ordinary and flat warts are mostly common for children, teenagers, or young adults.
  • Foot warts are shiny, uneven, thickened, painful growths surrounded by a horny ring that occurs mainly on foot fulcrum. They cause pain while walking, negatively affecting the quality of life. One may get infected in the gym or swimming pool. Removing the horny layer leaves black dots (clogged capillaries)
  • Pointe warts (pointed condyloma) are located on the mucous membranes of the genital organs. They are transmitted through sexsual intercourse and have a high risk of turning into malignant.
The way warts are treated varies from one type to another, it also depends on the location of outgrowths.
  • dermatologist consultation and treatment
  • cryodestruction, with liquid nitrogen, is one of the most gentle, and more than effective methods
  • laser therapy (NdYAG, CO2-laser)
  • electrocoagulation
For treatment of widely spread or large warts we have special packages of offers.
Nail treatment
In some cases of problematic nails, podological nail treatment has both preventive and therapeutic purposes.
  • onychomycosis (fungal infection of the nail)
  • onycholysis (separation of the nail from the nail bed)
  • onychodystrophy (morphological changes in the nail)
  • onychocryptosis (ingrown toenail)
  • post-traumatic nail
  • subungual hyperkeratosis
  • before prosthetics
  • for patient with diabetes, etc
Onychmycosis mainly occurs in middle-aged people, adults, but in recent years there has been an surge in cases recorded in children. How is podological nail treatment done? The foot is disinfected with special antibacterial substances. Problematic part of the nail is examined. The shape of the nail is corrected by removing excess thickening, an incorrectly growing part or an ingrown free edge of the nail. Treatment for soft tissues is prescribed if they are also affected. In Helios we use high-quality medical ingredients from the German brand BAEHR  for treatment . This makes it possible to care for all the foot types. Trimming your nails is important for both aesthetics and health. Proper nail treatment helps prevent a lot of potential problems associated with the nails and surrounding soft tissue.
Onychocryptosis – ingrown nail
Ingrown toenail today is a common problem all over the world. Ingrown toenail is an inward growth of the nail plate into the nail bed. It causes severe pain, redness, swelling, tissue overgrowth, and production of pus.
The phenomenon is caused by:
  • inappropriate shoe choice
  • inappropriate nail cut
  • changes in nail plate (onychodystrophy)
  • hereditary predisposition
  • flatten arch of the feet (flatfeet)
  • overweigh
  • anatomically high position of the hyponychium
  • fungal infection
  • excessive sweating
  • hormonal changes
  • injuries
  • sports activities
  • pregnancy
  • dermatologic diseases
  • also taking some medications may, as side effect, cause changes in nail plate
Currently medicine offers a number of methods for toenail ingrowth correction. This includes the following methods: conservative (tamponing, taping), surgical (nail plate partial excision, nail bed coagulation, plastic surgery), and orthonyxia.
Orthonyxia
Orthonyxia is a part of podiatry, which deals with non-surgical correction on ingrown, deformed nails. The idea behind the method is to place a disc (with correct nail shape) upon the nail. This will change the direction of nail growth, and bring corrections into nail deformities. The time it takes to cure nail deformations varies from person to person (from a month to 1-3 years). During the entire period of therapy, monthly monitoring of current results is necessary to introduce corrections to the shape of the disc.
Advantages of orthonyxia:
  • efficiency rate of about 90%
  • no need for anesthesia
  • no sense of discomfort or interfering with daily life
The most effective and common types of orthonyxia are:
  • Ni-Ti tread (titanum thread)
  • fraser disc
  • 3TO
  • PodoFix
  • BS disc
  • Podostripe
  • oneclip
  • combined
Contraindications:
  • onycholysis
  • hematoma
  • fungal infection of entire nail
Plasma therapy of the nails
What is plasma therapy? Plasma therapy uses one’s own (autologous) blood plasma injections to  stimulates secret regenerative resources of the body. This is one of the safest injection methods, causing no allergy, or other side effects – like catching infection. Plasma therapy sets no age or gender restrictions. The procedure takes 40-60 minutes. What kind of problems does plasma therapy address?
  • onychodystrophy -morphological changes in the nail
  • onycholysis – fungal infection of the nail
  • rehabilitation therapy (post trauma)
For all these cases plasma therapy improves the local blood circulation and stimulates nail growth. Hence the problematic nail naw grows faster and healthier. Contraindications:
  • skin diseases
  • oncological diseases
  • chronic vascular diseases
  • blood coagulation disorder
  • blood pressure problems
  • mental illnesses
  • diabetes
  • pregnancy
  • lactation
How often the procedure may be applied: Frequency is every 10-14 days. The course includes 4-6 visits.
Podological care of the diabetic foot
Diabetic foot is a complication of diabetes. These patients require a special approach to foot care, since with impaired sensitivity and insufficient blood supply in lower extremities any damage to the skin means a longer recovery period. Unfortunately, improper foot care or failure to follow doctor’s recommendations, can lead to further inflammation, ulceration, and even gangrene. It is especially important for these patients to choose right shoes. In the vast majority of cases tight shoe is a contributing factor to the development of ulcers. Right shoe selection with the help of a podiatrist will speed up the healing process. Patients also sometimes find it difficult to take care of their feet on their own, because diabetes is often accompanied by excess weight, decrease in vision, neurological disorders, etc. Ingrown nail, foot fungal diseases, dry skin, calluses, hyperkeratosis, darkening nail plate – all these are cases when diabetic foot should be consulted with a doctor. This is why it is necessary to visit a podiatric care center for diabetic foot. Podiatric care (instrumental pedicure) for patients with diabetes is the safest and most atraumatic option for the treatment of feet and nail plate. It allows to remove hyperkeratosis and calluses without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. Nails and skin are treated with special care, paying attention to all the problematic areas. The foot treatment consists of several stages: 1. inspection and sterilization of feet 2. events calendar elaboration 3. hyperkeratosis removal using special heads 4. feet final polishing 5. care, by the means of special creams Instrumental pedicure is performed only by an experienced podiatrist with medical knowledge of the diabetic patients’ foot treatment. To prevent complications patients should follow podiatrist instructions. Podological care of the feet for patients with diabetic foot For the majority of patients with diabetes nutritional disorder of the feet in the region of bone and joint is noticed. These changes are manifested by increased keratinization of the feet skin – places of maximum pressure. This not only helps in forming hyperkeratosis, but also subsequently contributes to formation of cracks- which later on will become focies of easy pass for potential infections. The changes are caused by alterations in blood supply, as well as pathological damage of nerve fibers (diabetic neuropathy). Decreased sensitivity causes disturbances in the functioning of the sebaceous and sweat gland of the feet, which leads to severe dryness, and subsequently to the formation of hyperkeratosis. Even in cases, where changes in the condition of the foot are not noticed, observation of patients suffering from diabetes by an orthopedist is still necessary. The specialist examines and evaluates the main types of sensitivity, evaluates the blood supply, which allows identifying patients at risk at an early stage, and starting treatment ahead of the appearance of ulcers. The specialist also treats the foot: removing manifested hyperkeratosis, treating ulcers; indicates the need to reduce the load on the affected limb; in the absence of contraindications, prepares individual unloading bandages. Patients suffering from diabetes mellitus, who are not in the risk group, are recommended to undergo an examination at least once a year. In the presence of complications, confirmation of impaired blood supply to the lower extremities, medical examinations should be carried out more often: at least 2-4 times a year. Even more often, if there are complaints or indications. “Helios” has a comprehensive (multidisciplinary) approach to the treatment of diabetic foot. The patient is examined by the following specialists:
  • endocrinologist – podologist, in order to correct glycemia, a unique appoach to complicated foot, and patient management concerning diabetes
  • vascular surgeon
  • radiologist conducts duplex examination
  • orthoped selects and manufactures mechanical inserts that reduce the load on the areas, most often affected
  • dermatologist, in necessary (in presence of fungal diseases, which happens quite often in patients with diabetes)
  • neuropathologist, who corrects the manifestation of neuropathy
Fungal infection
Your sunny footprint…
Fungal disease is an acute infectious disease that can affect both the skin and the nail. Have you noticed:
  • changes in nail colour, shine or shape
  • unpleasant smell of the feet
  • skin dryness, flaking, itching
it is necessary to have a fungal laboratory test, since only this test may answer whether you have caught a fungal infection or not. What is onychomycosis? Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of nails. What is mycosis? Mycosis is a fungal infection of the skin. The risk group includes:
  • militaries
  • gymnasts
  • swimming pool, sauna visitors
  • people with diabetes
  • people who had chemotherapy course
  • people who share shoes, socks, etc
Penetration of the fungus into the nail can be facilitated by:
  • mechanical injuries
  • chemical factors
  • wearing tight, synthetic shoes that create a warm, moist environment for fungus to thrive
  • excessive sweating
  • anatomical individualities of the foot, various deformations, flatfeet, narrow structured interdigital space, etc.
To cure nails with diagnosed fungal infection we offer:
  • dermatologist consultation and treatment (both: local and general antifungal treatment)
  • podological treatment (using antifungal agents)
  • laser therapy
  • plasma therapy
  • appropriate home care with special means
Fungal nail treatment
The name for fungal nail disease is onychomycosis. Diagnosis of the disease may never be done with the naked eye. The fact of one’s having infection is accepted or rejected only by performing laboratory tests. Fungal infection of nails can be caused by: 1. Nail damage, deformation (onychodystrophy), separation of the nail plate from the nail bed (onycholysis), thickening of the nail (onychogryphosis) 2. errors in nail polishing 3. lack of microelements/vitamins

A new nail within a few minutes
Your sunny footprint…
If you have a:
  • deformed or damaged nail
  • not growing nail
  • broken nail
the problem can be fixed in a matter of minutes. Our specialists restore the appearance of deformed or not growing nails using nail prosthetics. Nail prosthetics is a restoration of the aesthetic appearance of the nail by using special medical means. Prosthetics is used in cases when the nail has irregular growth, due to nutrition disorder or deformation. Prosthetics also means lowering of nail bed hill, thickened because of the nail absence. Prosthetics is contraindicated if there is:
  • a wounded surface
  • fungal infection
  • allergic reaction to prosthetic’s ingredients
  • completely missing nail
Prosthetic nails can be kept for no more than 1.5 months. For longer periods the nail will be easily damaged, it may also turn into an environment – fertile for fungi or bacteria. Ingredients used in nail prosthetics are:
  • antifungal, bactericidal
  • water resistant
  • heat resistant
  • suitable for nail polish
Prosthesis facilitates the growth process of natural nail and nail plate recovery. The intervention is:
  • fast
  • painless
  • harmless
  • dries with no lamp
The podologist’s consultation is free of charge.
Producing the orthosis
About a third of the world’s population suffers from foot deformities of one type or another. Deformities are caused by flatfeet, crooked toes, ingrown nails, calluses, or joint problems. To address feet or toe deformities of various types, interdigital orthoses are prescribed. Using orthoses allows you to relieve pain, restore the foot functioning and correct the position of the leg. In our center we engage in orthoses individual manufacturing. Each orthosis is manufactured according to the client’s personal characteristics and needs. You will always be under supervision of our specialist. Regular examinations help to evaluate treatment effect and introduce changes where they are needed.
Treatment process reduces the pain, swelling subsides, and fingers gradually restore their physiological position. As a rule, toe deformation is a result of flatfeet, one type or another. Thus to achieve maximal effect using orthopedic inserts should be combined with prescribed orthoses.
Kinetic foot massage
Kinetic foot massage is indicated if one has hallux valgus, flatfeet, numbness in the leg, or pain in lower limb. It also may facilitate:
  • strengthening of musculoskeletal system;
  • improvement of blood circulation in the foot;
  • elimination of foot fatigue, pain, swelling;
or prevent foot deformation. Kinetic foot massage may also be helpful in relieving stress. Contraindications:
  • skin wounded surface
  • ulcerative wounds
  • vascular insufficiency (vascular veins)
What are the obvious signs of flat feet?
  • Pain in the legs, knee joins, ankle joins, spine, fatigue, shoe deformation
  • toe deformation and formation of Hallux Valgus
Flat feet are diagnosed based on a medical examination, podoscopic and plantar (computer) examination. Examinations make it possible to identify exact problems with the position of the foot and the load point. Based on the results individual insoles are made. Individual insoles – prevention of flat feet. High-quality insoles are made individually, for each patient depending on the problem diagnosed. What problems can be solved by using insoles?
  • prevention of future foot deformation
  • correction of flatness
  • gradual relief from pain in the spine and fatigue

How to prepare for a fungal laboratory test?
When your health shines…
    affected by medications taken.
  • It is also not recommended to use soap or cream with aggressive ingredients for hygienic care (1 day before the test)
  • Immediately before the test avoid using cosmetic means of any kind
  • do not trim your nails or remove nail polish a day before the test
  • in case of re-testing, a day before doctor appointment: avoid washing treated area or using antifungal drugs
Fungal laboratory tests use microscopic methods. (Micros, Austria) In the case of fungal infection podiatric treatment is important, since it speeds up the healing process and makes overall treatment more effective. In “Helios” podiatric treatment uses German anti-fungal medical ingredients of high quality. It is the dermatologist who appoints periods between treating sessions. Periodicity of appointments depends on the gravity of cases. Usually it is – once a month.
