  • AESTHETIC MEDICINE

-What problems does dimensional contour plastic solve?

    • soft tissue volume recovery altered by age changing and lipodystrophy
    • correction of wrinkles (folds, grooves, nasolabial folds, around-mouth wrinkles, inter brow area).
    • facial asymmetry correction
    • correction of atrophic scars
    • lip modeling (contour, increase of volume).

-What kind of implant (filler) to choose?

    - Hyaluronic acid-based implants are used at “Helios” Medical Center, which are absorbed by the body within some period of time and later go out by a natural way. FDA approved the use of hyaluronic acid in 2009. Use of high-purity substances ensures avoiding a number of complications, including allergic reactions, while the doctor decides particularly which substance to choose based on the peculiarities of the issue.

    - When do the results of the injection become visible?

-The results of the injection of hyaluronic acid-based implants become visible immediately after the intervention. But it should be mentioned that the positive results of the intervention become more visible 2-3 weeks after the procedure. This is the reason why the final results of the intervention should be assessed 20 days after the intervention.

-What kind of side-effects can occur?

-The following can occur immediately after the intervention: redness, small swelling, and hematoma which are of a temporary nature and after some time completely disappear.

-How long do the results remain?

-The results of contour plastic remain from 8 months to 2 years depending on the age of the customer, skin condition, place of injection, personal features and so on. To reach best results the injection of the implant is combined with other injection methods.

-Are there any risks for Botox injections?

-The use of botulinum toxin type A in aesthetic medicine is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). They are of high quality and entirely harmless if injected in a right way. Botulinum toxin does not damage the nerves, but temporarily stops the transmission of nerve impulse to the neuromuscular synapse, which causes weakening of the given muscle and temporary elimination of mimic wrinkles. This process is not irreversible. The transmission of the impulses is restored in 3-6 months.

-How long do the results remain?

-The results of botulinum therapy are preserved for 3-6 months depending on the place of injection and dose of the preparation.

-What other problems can be solved in aesthetic medicine by botulinum toxin injection in addition to correction of dynamic wrinkles?

-Botulinum toxin is also used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). It is used for temporary prevention of excessive sweating of palms, underarms and feet. The effect of botulinum toxin on sweat glands remains 4-12 months.

    -What is acne?

Acne is a disease during which excessive quantity of fat is produced that can lead to a blockage of the sebaceous gland ducts. We see it in the form of black or white comedones, which, being a foreign body, inflame the skin of the given part.

-Is there a necessity to treat acne if it will pass on its own?

There are at least two reasons why acne should be actively treated. The first one is the emergence of scars, which is a common effect of acne even when inflammatory processes are already over. The second reason is that even if the disease goes on without causing scars, it may cause a serious psychological trauma to an individual.

    -How long does acne last?

Usually it starts at adolescence years and can last 4-6 years with relative improvements and worsening. In some cases the disease can last for decades.

-Which parts of the body are generally affected?

Acne is mostly typical for the skin of the face, back and the area between the breasts, where a big number of sebaceous glands are located.

    -What can cause acne worsening?

    1. Wrong skin care at home.
    2. Engagement in self-treatment, inadequate hygiene
    3. Use of very fatty, sweet and tantalizing food.
    4. Overfatigue, sleep disorders
    5. Other diseases existing in the organism.

-How many visits are necessary for tattoo removal?

6-10 visits are necessary. The number of visits is conditioned by several factors, including the density of color, the time tattoo was made and so on.

-Is the reemergence of papillomas and warts possible after their removal?

Yes, it is possible since it is a viral disease. Therefore, the reemergence is not ruled out. This is the reason why the doctor prescribes treatment after the removal.

-How many visits are necessary for removing warts?

It is personal and depends on the largeness and prevalence.

-What are the effects of laser and photoepilation?

Light energy is directed towards the intended hair melanin and, being absorbed by it, increases the temperature of hair follicles (hair root). The penetrated light, increasing the temperature of hair follicles, coagulates the hair root and the nourishing vessel. The result is a long-term depilation.

-What technologies does “Helios” Medical Center apply for removing unwanted hair?

Soprano XL machine is used as a novelty for laser epilation. It is an entirely painless method: Pain-free, Hair FreeTM. The machine works with laser diodes and the wavelength is 810 nm. Thank to the unique technology IN-MotionTM and use of DualChillTM technique, the skin surface remains cool during the procedure, giving the customer a feeling of comfort.

-What are the advantages of that novelty?

    1. Full skin refinement without leaving any gaps
    2. The procedure is fast and comfortable
    3. The treatment is harmless for any kind of skin, including sunburnt skin
    4. Ensures a quick return to everyday activities.

-How does Light Sheer system operate?

Light SheerTM laser epilation system operates by laser diodes and the wavelength is 800-810 nm. ChillTip special cooling handpiece increases the safety and comfort of the procedure.

    The advantages are the following:

    1. Accurate measure, depending on hair quality (color, thickness).
    2. The procedure is fast and comfortable
    3. The treatment is harmless for any kind of skin
    4. Ensures quick return to everyday activities.

-How does Skin Sataion system work?

The Skin Sataion, LHETM (light and heat energy) technology works by the principle of selective photothermolysis (wavelength 400-1200 nm). The uniqueness of the method is the simultaneous application of energies of both light and heat. The effectiveness of photoepilation largely depends on the hair color and skin type. It is maximally effective for pale skin (I and II phototype) with black or dark hair. But in contrast to laser epilation, it is also applied for the removal of pale hair.

-What information should one have before undertaking laser or photo interventions?

    1. Not to get a suntan for two weeks prior to laser intervention
    2. Not to take drugs increasing photosensitivity
    3. Not to undergo peeling procedures 2 weeks prior to the laser intervention
    4. To use sun-screening agents after photo or laser intervention.
    5. Follow the doctor’s recommendations.

Electroepilation has no limitations in terms of skin or hair color. This method is particularly recommended for the removal of white hair.

-What to choose among hair removal methods?

Depending on the skin type, color and hair quality, the specialists of our center will choose the method (or combination of methods) which will have the maximally positive results. There might be a necessary to conduct from 5 to 10-12 interventions to reach the desired results.

    • Which parts of the body are suitable for epilation?
    • Epilation can be conducted in any part of the body, feet, hands, bikini, back, face, neck, underarms etc. The interventions at “Helios” Medical Center are conducted by skillful doctors. It is possible to return to everyday activities immediately after the interventions.

-Are there any risks with the interventions and is there an age limitation?

FDA has approved the use of all the laser and photo devices applied by “Helios” Medical Center. Laser and photo epilations are harmless and people aged 16-18 and above can undergo those procedures.

-How can be the results of reduction of extra weight and body volume preserved for a long period of time?

Periodical visits once 3 or 4 weeks are necessary after the treatment course: activate metabolic processes, blood and lymph circulation, ensuring wellness, relaxation and following the recommendations of the doctors regarding diet and activation of body motion functions.

Will it be possible to get rid of the spots, striations that emerge on the skin after pregnancy as a result of gaining and losing weight?

We offer complex measures such as chemical peeling, hardware physiotherapy, wraps, mesotherapy, carboxytherapy, and microdermabrasion. The efficiency is expressed in qualitative changes in the skin and lifting, as a result of which the striations become subtle and unnoticed while the skin becomes velvety.

-Is that possible that problems reemerge after obesity and cellulite treatment course?

Chronic process is typical for obesity and cellulite. This means that changes of life conditions (stress, climate, food or hormonal changes) may foster disorders of blood and lymph circulation, and activation of fat synthesis. But after a full course of treatment the changes are much less visible.

  • DERMATOLOGIST

-Is psoriasis really an incurable disease?

Psoriasis is curable. Of course, the treatment is often difficult since general pathological changes occur in the organism which need a versatile examination of the patient and a comprehensive treatment. In the early phase of the disease, it is often possible to eliminate it, particularly among children. In other cases the lesion alleviates and gets restricted as a result of the treatment, but the patient does not fully recover. In other words, everything depends on the specific case and personal features of the patient.

-Which are the allergic skin diseases and how to be protected from them?

Allergy is the organism's reaction to different stimuli (allergens). During some skin diseases (hives, Kwinke swelling Lyell's syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and anaphylactic shock) an acute allergic reaction or immediate-type hypersensitivity reaction develops. These are life threatening diseases. During other skin diseases (allergic contact dermatitis, eczema, itching etc.) the allergic reaction develops slowly. Each of the mentioned diseases has its own development mechanism and clinical picture based on which the diseases can be prevented.

-Is it possible to treat nail fungal diseases only by external interventions?

Without internal medical intervention (taking drugs) treatment of nail fungal diseases can cause troubles if the patient has allergic reaction towards preparations for external intervention or serious liver or kidney pathological condition. In such cases the treatment process lasts longer and requires greater efforts by both the specialist and the patient.

-How can a child be infected by skin fungal diseases, if there is no one suffering those diseases at home or at school?

If a fungal disease is confirmed for a child while a careful examination does not reveal the source of the disease either at home or among other people (kindergarten, street), the source should be looked for among domestic animals and rodents. In private cases the infection can be transmitted via soil. This is typical for microspore and trichophyton which often affect the hairy part of the head and the smooth skin.

-Are papillomas dangerous if they are not treated?

Papillomas or soft peaked warts have a viral origin. They are clinically manifested in a variety of sizes and shapes; they are most frequently threadlike, wartlike and often emerge on the neck. If they are few in number, they tend to multiply (by self-infection), expand in the size, undergo pigmentation and transmit to other people (through direct interactions) and cover natural pores.

Papillomas located in the body parts open for sunrays can undergo severe pigmentation. All these are good reasons to persuade the patient to be treated.

-What kind of nail lesions must occur to be recommended a complete removal of the nail?

A necessity for a complete removal of a nail arises mainly in cases of injuries, excessive bleeding underneath the nail and hemangiomas. In such cases even if an immediate removal of the nail is not conducted, it will drop on its own 1-2 weeks later. In other cases (ingrown nails, nourishment disorders, fungal infections etc.) a complete removal of the nail should be avoided by effectively treating the lesion by other methods and means, which can be successfully implemented at “Helios” Medical Center.

-Which specialists deal with oral mucous membrane lesions, dentist or dermatologist?

If oral mucous membrane lesion develops at a patient and he has aches, heartburn and other unusual feelings, he can go to both dentist and dermatologist. Examination of not only the oral mucous membrane, but also full clinical and bacteriological tests of the patient are necessary since the lesion can be a partial symptom of another serious disease. Only after that it will be possible to clarify which specialist to apply to.

  • THERAPIST

    -What can cause stomach ache?

There are various reasons: acute and chronic gastritis which can be of high and low acid level, duodenum inflammations, acute and chronic erosions, ulcers both in the stomach and the duodenum, inflammation of the pancreas. To have correct information on the reasons of the ache, consultation with a doctor and examination are necessary.

    -What can cause abdominal pain?

Acute and chronic gastritis, duodenum inflammations (erosions, ulcers), bowel inflammations (both thin and narrow stools), inflammation of gallbladder, biliary dyskinesia, gallstones, presence of gas within the abdominal cavity, diarrhea or constipation, blind gut inflammations can cause abdominal pain. In case of such symptoms it is necessary to go to doctor.

-What are the causes of facial rash?

Oral inflammation, purulent angina (chronic), untreated teeth, irregular bowel movements, intestinal dysbiosis, inflammation of the pancreas, helminthiasis can cause facial rash.

-What are the causes of nausea?

Nausea can be caused by the inflammation of any organ in the abdominal cavity, as well as by blood pressure increase, neuroses, depression, helminthiasis and a number of other diseases.

-I have a feeling of heartburn. What is its reason?

It can occur during gastritis with high level acidity, duodenal ulcers, as well as when gastric juice is pushed back to the esophagus. It is recommended to go to the doctor and receive relevant treatment.

    -I suffer frequent diarrhea.

Diarrhea can be caused by various bowel diseases. To find out the cause it is necessary to conduct a bacteriological examination of the stools to deny any of the intestinal infections. Lack of ferments, liver and pancreas diseases, presence of lamblia, amoebozoa or flatworms, Crohn's disease and a number of other diseases can cause diarrhea.

-I suffer constipation. What to do?

This can be linked with intestinal dysbiosis, diet, diseases of the nervous system, sedentary life. It can also be the result of hereditary diseases (dolichosigma), colon or reduction of stomach size. It is necessary to undergo an examination to find out the cause.

  • GYNECOLOGIST

-What diseases can be discovered by a pap test and what can be the cause of the production?

Vaginal production can be a result of both physiological and different pathological conditions. Production during mid-menstrual cycle in viscous, transparent mucus form is considered normal. It is due to the influence of female hormones. But if the production is yellow or greenish, foamy, seaweed-like and smells unpleasant and acute, it is necessary to go to doctor to find out if it is linked to an inflammatory process.

Vaginal pathological production can be caused by violation of vaginal microflora, sexually transmitted diseases, stress, decline in immunity, pregnancy or other factors. The reasons of pathological production are various and a consultation with gynecologist, examination and treatment are necessary.

    -What can cause genital itching?

Neurological and endocrine disorders, as well as urogenital infections, dysbiosis of vagina can cause genital itching. All these conditions must be denied or approved. It is necessary to go to doctor.

-It is possible to conceive during a sexual intercourse with the use of a contraceptive sheath?

If the contraceptive sheath is correctly used, the protection from unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases is quite reliable. A contraceptive sheath does not protect against herpes virus. A contraceptive sheath can be ineffective in terms of protecting against a number of infections (syphilis, herpes, papilloma virus, scab, molluscum contagiosum, tropical sexually transmitted disease such as chancroid, donovanosis or lymphogranuloma venereum). Contraceptive sheaths have expiration date.

-Which days of the menstrual cycle are safer for not conceiving?

Many people think that it is impossible to get pregnant during some specific days of the menstrual cycle. This is because oocytes fertilization occurs some days after the ovulation.

    But

    • due to emotional experiences, stress or hormonal imbalance two oocytes can develop instead of one
    • oocyte can mature earlier or later than mid-cycle
    • sometimes sperms can live up to 5-7 days.

This means that any unprotected sexual intercourse during any period of the menstrual cycle can lead to pregnancy. There are only dangerous and extremely dangerous days that will lead to unwanted pregnancy. This is the reason one should to choose an effective means of birth control upon doctor's recommendation.

There are some methods of calculating the “safe period''.

Calendar-based methods, basal body temperature charting and others are among them. If you are interested in birth control methods you should consult with a doctor.

-Is there a necessity to use other contraceptive measures if birth-control pills are taken? I have heard that many lose weight by adopting birth control pills.

Taking combined oral contraceptive pills (birth control pills), if used in a correct way without intervals starting from the first day of the cycle, pregnancy is ruled out. But these measures do not protect against sexually transmitted infections. The partner may be unaware of his health problems as infections in men often have a hidden form and can be transmitted to the female partner after a sexual intercourse without a contraceptive sheath. That is why adolescent and those leading an irregular sexual life are recommended to use birth control pills in addition to contraceptive sheath. If the birth control pills are correctly chosen, they can have no impact on the weight. Weight gain depends on one’s lifestyle, eating habits and so on. Some girls start to eat more and feel less nervous after taking birth control pills, as a result of which gain weight.

-Are there drugs that can be used not permanently, only after sexual intercourse and which pills contain less hormones?

Spermicides and barrier methods (contraceptive sheath, pastes, gels, vaginal tablets etc.) can be used directly during the sexual intercourse. Emergency contraceptives can be used after unprotected sexual intercourse, which are not recommended for regular use as an ongoing contraceptive method. Other contraceptives used in their scheme, irrespective of the sexual intercourse.

    -Is painful menstruation normal?

Normal menstrual cycle should proceed without pains. A slight pain in the lower part of the abdomen or waist during the first two days of the cycle is normal. That pain must not cause a decline of working capacity, use of drugs or lying in bed. A painful menstruation that leads to taking drugs cannot be considered normal. In the language of medicine a painful menstrual cycle is called dysmenorrhea, during which not only a feeling of pain can be present, but also nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fever, high temperature and so on. In such cases it is necessary to go to doctor and find out the real causes.

-What can cause vaginal pain at the beginning of a sexual intercourse?

Pain at the start of a sexual intercourse can be caused by lack of vaginal moisture. Sometimes the pain during intercourse can be caused by abnormalities, trauma, degenerative or inflammatory changes. In some cases it can be explained by psychosomatic disorders arising from psychogenic factors. Among the psychogenic factors is woman’s negative attitude towards her partner or sex. In such cases it is necessary to go to gynecologist or psychotherapist.

-What can cause delay of menstruation if pregnancy is ruled out?

The delay of menstruation may be due to inflammatory diseases, stress, drastic violations of weight, active engagement in sports, organic diseases, use of certain medications (tranquilizers, narcotic drugs), and chronic diseases (anemia, thyroid diseases, etc.). Anyway, pregnancy should be ruled out first of all during a delay of menstruation and then go to doctor to find out the reasons of the delay and receive treatment.

-Can a pregnancy test detect ectopic pregnancy?

No, it cannot. A pregnancy test determines the amount of chorionic gonadotropin in urine or blood which detects pregnancy without determining the localization of the placenta. Of course, determining the amount of chorionic gonadotropin by a laboratory method and the increase of its amount during pregnancy differs from ectopic pregnancy to some extent. Such a diagnosis is confirmed by a sonographic examination or diagnostic laparoscopy.

  • SEXOLOGIST

-Can a sexual desire decline in case of a prolonged absence of sexual intercourse?

Yes, absence of sexual life can cause decline of sexual desire. Long-term male sexual abstinence stimulates defensive system which inhibits sexual desire. This is a reversible process and after returning to a sexual life the desire full resumes, if there are no organic changes.

-Can rubbing of genitals cause pregnancy?

This type of sexual intercourse, when the genitals of the partners contact each other without inserting the penis is called vestibular coitus. It considered a substitution to sexual life. If no ejaculation takes place, there can be no pregnancy. If ejaculation takes place and the sperm flows into the genitals or around it, a pregnancy may be recorded as spermatozoon is mobile and can ''move'' through the female genital tracts.

-Can daily masturbation fully substitute sexual intercourse for young boys? Can it cause mental and physical pathological disorders?

From a medical perspective, it is normal when young boys masturbate from time to time. Masturbation is considered a substitution to sexual intercourse but it cannot fully substitute sexual intercourse. Moreover, its abuse and concentration on it may lead to a situation when one is unable to establish normal inter-personal relations with the representatives of the opposite sex.

-What can cause premature ejaculation if nothing like that has happened in the past?

Premature ejaculation can have both psychogenic origins like stress, depression, fatigue, insomnia, change in partner, not stable sexual life, inter-personal problems and so on, and organogenic origins, such as frequent inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system or neuron diseases.

  • DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY

The laboratory works every day from 09:00 to 17:00. Sunday day-off.

-Does your laboratory conduct tests to detect fungi?

-Is a Pap test for men available?

Yes. Male smear sample is taken at least 3-4 hours after urination.

-When can one give blood for hormone testing?

Any hormone testing should be conducted upon doctor's recommendation.

  • ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION

-Is there a need for some preparation before undergoing a sonographic examination?

The following can be examined without any in-advance preparatory works:

    • Thyroid gland
    • Mammary glands (preferably on the 5th day of the menstrual cycle)
    • Soft tissues and joints
    • Scrotum organs
    • Cardiovascular system

Abdominal organs are examined in a fully hungry condition

    • Hepatopancreatobiliary system (liver, gallbladder, pancreas).

Full bladder is necessary for the examination of

    • Kidneys and ureters
    • Pelvic organs (uterus, ovaries, prostate)

-What kind of negative impact can ultrasound examination have on one's organism?

Up till now no side effect has been discovered among doctors or those undergoing the examination. Ultrasound leaves certain biological effect, mechanical and thermal. Cavitation can occur under the influence of ultrasound wave which is the formation of bubbles in a liquid or gas.

The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine announced the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) after numerous researches which means an ultrasound radiation at the minimum level during the examination.

-When is sonographic study informative in case of a positive pregnancy test and when will be possible to see the heart palpitations?

4 weeks after pregnancy the placenta can be visible in the uterine cavity. Heart palpitations are visible after 6 weeks. In any of the mentioned cases there can be variations of up to 1 week depending on the timing of ovulation.

  • PODOLOGY

-What are the causes of ingrowing nails?

    1. The wrong choice of shoes (especially for children)
    2. Wrong nail care
